REMEMBERING M.N.ROY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 130TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
(21ST March 1887- 25th January 1954)
At the age of 14 Roy started his career as a militant revolutionary in Bengal against the British, left India in 1915 in search for arms for Indian revolutionaries during Ist World War, landed in USA, converted to socialism and Marxism, went to Mexico in 1917, became General Secretary of the Mexican Socialist Party, joined Communist International in 1919 and converted the Mexican Socialist Party into the Communist Party of Mexico –thus became founder of the First Communist Party in the World after Russia, Lenin invited him to attend the second Congress of the Communist International in 1920, took active part in formulations and activities of the Communist International, was elected as member of its Presidium and of its Secretariat, was made in-charge of organizing the communist movement in Asia and of training and education of Asiatic communists in the Eastern University of Moscow, founded Communist Party of India (émigré) in October 1920 at Tashkent, flooded India with large amount of Marxist and communist literature and promoted communist groups in several parts of India, led the delegation of the Communist International to China in December 1926 to implement its theses on China and to guide revolutionary process, mission met catastrophic failure, on return in 1927 to Moscow differences developed with several members of the Presidium, came to Berlin, started writing articles opposing the policies of the Communist International which he thought were going to help the Fascists in Europe, severed his relations with the Communist International in 1928 for reasons of disagreement regarding both the theory and practice of communism, came to India in 1930, was imprisoned under the charge of Sedition in the famous Kanpur communist conspiracy case in which he was accused No.1, spent six years in jail, on release in 1936 joined Indian National Congress and became member of its Working committee, did not agree with the Congress’s policy on its attitude to the 2nd World War and severed relations with it, opposed the Quit India Movement as he thought that defeat of Fascist Powers in the Second World War was more important at that moment of world history, founded Radical Democratic Party of India in 1940 which he dissolved himself in 1948 as he thought that ‘party politics’ was incompatible with the philosophy of Radical Humanism which he had evolved in the last phase of his life. Since then he occupied himself with the philosophical and historical writings as Founder-Director of the Indian Renaissance Institute, Dehradun, a cultural-educational institution founded with the object of re-educating the educators and young intellectuals of India in the spirit and with the ideas of Radical (or Integral) Humanism. He believed in the dictum of ancient wisdom that ‘man’ is the measure of everything and that merit of any social organization or political institution is to be judged by the measure of freedom it gives to the individual. He died in Dehradun on 25th January, 1954.

विश्वप्रसिद्ध राजनीतिक सिद्धांतवेत्ता एवं भारत में कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के संस्थापक मानवेंद्रनाथ राय का जन्म आज ही तिथि 21 मार्च 1887 को पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ था । 14 वर्ष की अवस्था में ही उन्होंने भारतीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में भाग लेना शुरू कर दिया था । स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में क्रांतिकारी संगठन को विदेशों से धन एवं हथियार उपलब्ध करवाया जिसके कारण 1912 में 'हावड़ा षड्यंत्र केस' में उन्हे गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। 'कानपुर षड्यंत्र केस' में भी उन्हे छह साल की जेल की सजा हुई । सन् 1922 में उन्होंने बर्लिन में 'द लैंगार्ड ऑफ इंडियन इंडिपेंडेंस' नामक पत्र निकाला। वे मेक्सिको की कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के भी संस्थापक थे। उन्होंने लगभग अस्सी किताबों की रचना की। 'दी वे टू डयुरेबिल पीस','रीजन ,रोमांटिसिज्म ऐंड रिवॉल्यूशन','इंडियन प्राॅबलम्स एण्ड देयर सोल्यूशन' आदि उनके प्रमुख पुस्तक हैं।आइए भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के महान क्रांतिकारी, विचारक, दार्शनिक एम एन राय उर्फ मानवेंद्रनाथ राय को उनकी जयन्ती पर क्रांतिकारी सलाम पेश करते हैं।
