Patna: Communist Party of India (CPI) former General Secretary A. B. Bardhan, speaking at a press conference in Patna on Sunday, said that the party would contest on 10 to 12 seats in Bihar in the next Lok Sabha election and the CPI was open to the idea of forming alliance with parties other than the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at the conclusion of the party's three-day state meeting on Sunday, Bardhan said that the alliance with the non-Congress, non-BJP parties would be based on the common minimum program (CMP) to make a formidable third front capable to form the next government at the Center.

While not ruling out an alliance with the Janata Dal – U in Bihar, the communist leader said that it would be possible only if the JD-U broke its ties with the BJP.
Interestingly, it's every five years the CPI and its various avatars differentiated only by their alphabets within the parenthesis, come up with the same song and dance hoping to form a 'viable' third front that would successfully take on the establishment politics led by the Congress and the BJP only to be swept away in the electoral vote counts hanging barely to a thread for their political survival.

"We are open to talk to any party that agrees with our philosophy and will name the constituencies in Bihar only after consulting with our partners like Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India – ML (CPI-ML), and Forward Block," Bardhan said.

No leftist press conference is complete without the announcement of an upcoming protest rally and Bardhan did not disappoint either. "We will hold a massive rally in Patna on October 25 to expose the failure of the current administration. Issues like land reform, contractual teachers, and private university bill would be taken up during this rally," he said.
