Ghizal Mahdi

Hats off to newly-elected MLA, Muhammed Muhsin and JNUSU President, Kanhaiya Kumar!
Heartiest congratulations to the voters of Pattambi Constituency of Palakkad District of Kerala for electing a 30-year young dynamic student leader, Muhammad Muhsin as their MLA on the ticket of Communist Party of India.
He defeated the two-term senior Congress Party MLA, C.P. Mohammed.
Muhsin is currently the Vice President of the JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) unit of All India Students Federation. He has been in student politics since the days at Calicut University from where he did his graduation. He is in the final leg of his Ph.D. in Adult Education at JNU.
The renowned student leader, Kanhaiya Kumar and Muhammed Muhsin are comrade-in-arms in JNU and hostel mates. Muhsin was the prominent JNU student leader who led the agitation for Kanhaiya’s release from the prison.
Kanahaiya too intensively campaigned for Muhsin in Pittambi constituency and addressed many election rallies and meetings. He also brought with him a strong group of IPTA (Indian People’s Theater Association) to stage plays and Nukkad Natak in support of Muhsin’s candidature. Addressing the election meetings at Pattambi, Kanhaiya targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for comparing Kerala with Somalia, and HRD Minister Smriti Irani for her anti-student anti-Dalit policies.
Following the victory Muhsin said, “the JNU incident had an impact on the young voters in his constituency where he focused his election campaign on communal fascism, curtailment of freedom of speech besides the rampant corruption in the state, deteriorating law and order and other day-to-day issues”.
We congratulate Muhammad Muhsin on his victory and believe he will contribute to strengthening the progressive student movement in the country and consolidate the AISF slogan – Study & Struggle.
